Latest Update – May 2021

16th May 2021

Dear Friends

Having passed the 2,000 mark in terms of food deliveries since the start of lockdown 1 you might be thinking that we would be well on our way to re-opening our distribution centres. Not yet – there will be quite a lot of work to do to re-open, and there still seems to be a little uncertainty from Downing Street as to how things might pan out – Covid19-wise – over the next few weeks, so in line with many other foodbanks we have no date yet for such a return. So it’s a big thank you once again to our amazing team of delivery drivers as they continue the distribution work throughout the Dover area. A big thank you, as well, to all other volunteers in the many different roles fulfilled to keep the foodbank operating so smoothly; it’s worth remembering, of course, that Dover Foodbank is an all-volunteer organisation.

We are truly privileged to be supported by so many generous-minded folk in the local community, such that our stocks remain good, at least keeping pace with the support we are passing on to those in need, and as a result of the many donations we receive you are making a real and positive difference to the lives of many people in our local community. The life-line you are giving is genuinely appreciated by many who receive – thank you.

Stock levels of different items vary from time to time for all sorts of reasons and this is reflected in the “wanted” list which we include with every update, but do please remember we are always more than happy to receive any and all in-date, long-life / non-perishable food items. You will have noticed that we include a small number of non-food items on the list from time to time (this month we have included soap – since the start of the pandemic we have included a bar or bottle of soap with every delivery).

As always, thank you all for your support for those in need, it is very much appreciated, and, as mentioned above, stocks continue to hold up well – thanks to the amazing generosity of you and others within our local community. Do please feel free to circulate / forward / share / distribute the contents of this e-mail. And don’t forget – if you have any questions you want answered, please send me an e-mail about it and I will try to answer in the next week or so.

With kindest regards and every best wish – keep safe and keep well.

Jonathan and the Dover Foodbank team
