25th July 2021

Dear Friends

It was just over 8 years ago – July 2013 – that Dover Foodbank received its first donations of food. The event was a store collection day at our local Tesco store – part of their Tesco / Trussell Trust series of store collections, and our good friends at Deal Area Foodbank offered us the last day out of the three day event as an opportunity to start building up our stocks in readiness for opening our first ever distribution session, which we did, on 1st October 2013. Since then we have, as a result of your incredible generosity, been able to distribute over 191 tonnes of food and other essentials to local people in need. That is such an amazing tribute to the generosity of so many people and to the hard work of such an amazing group of hard working volunteers – Thank you to one and all for the difference you have made to so many people’s lives.

And the work continues – the foodbank is very much “alive and well” – operating as it does at the moment on a doorstep delivery basis. And, although there is a hope that one day there will be no more need for foodbanks, it looks very much like that day may be some way off yet – with the number of doorstep deliveries made during the week beginning 12th July 2021 being more than double those made in the same week last year – though deliveries do vary from week to week. We are pleased to be able to report that current stock levels are such that we are able to cope well with such fluctuations in demand

In the last newsletter we mentioned that we were looking to employ two new members of staff – a Project Manager and a Warehouse Co-ordinator; interviews for at least one of these roles are scheduled to take place before the end of this month – hopefully in our next newsletter we will be able to give an update on appointments made. In the meantime the existing team will continue the privileged work of receiving, sorting, storing and distributing the many generous donations we receive to those who are in need. Thank you for the part you play in this, we couldn’t do it without you.

As always, do please feel free to circulate / forward / share / distribute the contents of this e-mail. And don’t forget – if you have any questions you want answered, please send me an e-mail about it and I will try to answer in the next week or so.

With kindest regards and every best wish – keep safe and keep well.
